Nearly 90% of the island population is of Inuit descent, and the territory respects that origin, shaping policies from a native perspective. For example, there is no ownership of private property in Greenland. You can't come here and spend money buying land. And most of the important industries on the island are state owned.
'There is a really strong feeling that Greenland's culture likes to make decisions in general instead of letting individuals make decisions for everyone else,' said photographer Yüyan. A lot of things may not be good for Greenland in the long run. '

Greenland is the largest island in the world, a large territory above Canada reaching the North Pole. Most of the place is covered with ice all year round.
Only 20% of the 836,300 square miles of the island area are inhabited by humans. The island population is also very small, only about 50,000 people. However, Greenland people have a really high standard of living. Mr. Yüyan said that living standards in Greenland are much better than what we call developed countries. And part of the reason for that is that the people who occupied the island were Danish.

Over time, the colonization process may have destroyed indigenous communities, but Greenland - and other indigenous communities in the Arctic, still retain their traditions.
"In the North Pole, it is very fortunate because of its remoteness, there are quite a few preserved cultures and traditions. And that is especially true here in Greenland," Yüyan said.
