Discovered a huge 'graveyard' during the ice age

Construction workers discovered an archaeological site in a lake in the Rocky Mountains, Colorado area (USA). This archaeological site contains many fossils of giant animals during the ice age, such as mammoths, mastodons and sloths.

While preparing the site to build a dam in a lake near the village of Snowmass in the Rocky, Colorado mountains (USA), construction workers found the bones of the mammoth. The area continued to be excavated later and paleontologists discovered 600 skeletons of different animals.

Notable fossils were discovered including 4 skeletons of Columbia mammoths, 10 skeletons of American mastodon, 4 fossils of ice ages, some fossils of deer, sloth, .

According to preliminary analysis, scientists have identified the recently discovered fossil of live animals at the end of the ice age, some 150,000 to 50,000 years ago. During this period, the majority of Northern Europe and North America were covered by glaciers.

Paleontologists are also analyzing and grafting bone fragments together, in order to determine the age of fossils and find out why there is a large amount of fossil animal bones buried in one place so.

' This is a rare archaeological site,' said Dr. Kirk Johnson, of the Denver Museum of Natural Science and Nature and head of a group of paleontologists, speaking in the Telegraph newspaper. 'It's a treasure of animal fossils at the end of the ice age .'

Currently, the work of fossil excavation in this area had to be postponed due to heavy snowfall. It is expected that excavation work will continue in spring and scientists hope to discover more secrets about this archaeological site.
