Discovered something that never existed in nature between a diamond
However, according to scientists, this ice has a lot in the Solar System.
In the middle of the hard diamond layer formed deep in the Earth's crust, scientists discovered what ice has never appeared in nature. This scientific discovery was published on Thursday in the journal Science, marking the first time researchers have found ice-VII matter on Earth.
And like many other scientific discoveries, they randomly find this unprecedented ice.
This is something that ice has never appeared in nature.(Illustration).
Ice-VII is only 1.5 times thicker than the type of stone we often use for water phase, the crystal structure of atoms inside the ice-VII is also very different. In regular stone, also known as I-stone, oxygen atom lies in hexagonal block. In band VII, these atoms are arranged into cubes.
Oliver Tschauner, professor of geology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, explains that there are many different types of tapes formed under different pressure and temperature conditions. There are clearly 7 different types of tapes, when this new tape has a Roman number of VII.
This is unusual.
Normally, when pressing something in hard form by increasing the pressure on that material, the distance between chemical bonds will decrease, the bonds will get closer. This is called compression.
But ice has very low compression. When they suffer a great amount of pressure, they do not come together but turn themselves into another structure. For example, when you put enough pressure on I-tape, they will turn into ice-II, which has a lozenges structure. Continuing to increase pressure, they will turn into ice-II, IV, V, and VI, and most recently, we will find ice-VII in nature.
A special feature of this tape-VII is that they remain stable even when additional pressure is added.

Scientists believe that ice-VII has a lot in the Solar System , mainly inside and, or can exist on the ocean floor. But it will not appear naturally on Earth.
On Earth there are places where there is enough pressure to create ice-VII, however, those points are very deep in the Earth's crust, where temperatures are high due to continuous heat of the Earth's core. Band VII can be completely created in the laboratory, but with the new discovery - ice-VII sandwiched between diamonds, we have a different view.
Diamonds can be formed deep in the Earth's crust. Geological fluctuations will take them to the surface of the Earth.
This is why diamond is an important source of material samples for science."Usually the minerals beneath the Earth's crust become unstable when they come into contact with a low-pressure environment , " said the mineralogist George Rossman.
Diamonds are made up of inside the Earth's crust that often do not contain ice-VII. As mentioned above, this shell is too warm for ice-VII to exist.
Diamonds are made up of inside the Earth's crust that often do not contain ice-VII.
However, as shown in this study, diamonds can capture small, extremely dense bubbles composed of water with high pressure. As the diamond rises, the water inside the diamond is exposed to colder temperatures and is still under tremendous pressure (between two diamonds). Therefore, ice-VII formed.
The research team acknowledged that they did not purposely seek this tape. But when scanning diamonds to find traces of carbon dioxide, they found ice-VII, the first time on the surface of the Earth.
Thanks to this discovery, ice-VII has been confirmed as a mineral.
The scientist Rossman said eagerly: "Water inside the diamond is not strange, but finding ice inside the extreme pressure of diamonds is completely random. So people call it discovery! ".
