Discovered two proteins that cause brain cancer

Italian scientists and Canadian colleagues have found two proteins that are thought to cause brain tumors , opening new directions in finding a cure for the disease that medicine still does.

The team, led by Professor Alessandro Perin of Carlo Besta Neurology Institute in Milan, Italy, said the above proteins are capable of stimulating and developing glioblastoma , one of the common malignant brain tumors. Best.

Thanks to these proteins, cells in glioblastoma grow rapidly, spreading throughout the brain and crowding out normal brain cells.

Currently, science cannot prevent the development of glioblastoma by chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

According to Professor Perin, the two proteins work in certain groups of glioblastoma cells, where brain tumors begin to produce, and create the first brain tumor cell. They also stimulate the regeneration of brain tumors. This explains why the rate of recurrent brain tumors after surgery and chemotherapy or radiotherapy is usually higher than other types of tumors.

The study is the result of cooperation of Carlo Besta Institute, Treviso Hospital, Italy's Gene and Biophysical Research Institute with the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and University of Calgary, Canada.
