America: Detecting new antibodies that treat 7 types of cancer

New research from Stanford University (USA) has discovered an antibody that can be put to treat 7 types of cancer: breast cancer, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, bladder cancer, brain cancer , liver cancer and blood cancer.

This antibody is Y-shaped and has previously been used to treat leukemia. The team discovered the effect of this antibody on the activity of a protein called CD47, a protein on the surface of cancer-causing cells.

The team conducted tests on cells and mice implanted with human-like cancer cells. The results showed that antibodies inhibit the growth of cancer cells, causing tumors to shrink and some cases of tumors disappear, causing very few side effects.

Professor Philip Ashton Riakardt, an expert in immunology in the UK, said that this method could be used to treat cancer cells that are resistant to traditional treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

However, scientists are continuing with other clinical trials and preparing to conduct human body trials to make final conclusions.
