Display of 39,000-year-old mammoth corpses

The public has the opportunity to admire rare mammoth corpses in Japan after scientists transport it from Russia.

An expert group of Northeastern University in Russia and colleagues from the Korea Biotechnology Research Institute discovered the remains of an immature female mammoth in the permafrost of the New Siberian Islands. Russia. The animal has eaten its upper half, but the lower half is still in the ice so scientists can take blood, soft tissue and glands in the elephant's body.

Yuka , the name of the mammoth dating back to 39,000 years, is on public display in Yokohama City, Japan after people transport them from Siberia, New York Daily News reported. Visitors can admire the golden-brown fur and soft tissue on the body, and imagine it fluttering over glaciers thousands of years ago.

"We were really surprised to find the mammoth's blood and muscle tissue. This is the first time we tried to take their blood. No one has ever seen blood mammoths before , " Semyon said. Grigoriev, director of the Mammoth Museum of Northeastern University in Russia, once spoke in June.

Grigoriev hoped he and his colleagues would see at least one cell of the elephant still alive. If that hope comes true, the team can revive mammoths by cloning techniques.

"But in the harsh conditions of permafrost, that possibility is very small," he admitted.

Scientists believe that mammoths are extinct more than 10,000 years ago, but some elephants still lived until 1,650 BC.

Last year the Northeast University of Russia signed a cooperation agreement with the Korea Biotechnology Research Institute to duplicate mammoths from mammoth remains in Russia.
