Does adding fish oil every day increase children's memory?

Children should be supplemented to help increase their memory and reading ability. However, a new study by British scientists proved the opposite.

Daily Mail on March 5 posted the results of this study. Among children of age learning to read, supplementing with one capsule of fish oil daily for 16 weeks does not improve reading skills or the ability to remember information.

This study analyzed 376 children of 84 primary schools in the UK. Half of these children get fish oil supplements every day for 16 weeks while other children do not.

Parents should find other ways to help develop their child's reading skills rather than adding fish oil every day.

The results of this study have been published on PLOS ONE.

Study author Thees Spreckelsen of Oxford University (UK) said fish oil or Omega-3 is often thought to have many benefits. However, the evidence for the benefits of improving the child's ability to learn clearly cannot be as convincing as we think.

Previous research has shown that some fish contain omega-3 fatty acids that can play an important role in developing nerve cells and can help boost brain and intelligence.

However, the current study gave a very different result. Oxford University researchers recommend parents should find other ways to help develop their child's reading skills rather than adding fish oil every day.

Professor Paul Montgomery of Birmingham University (UK), the lead author of the study, told the Daily Mail: "We all want to help children who have difficulty learning and need more funds to invest in a lot. Further research to find ways to help them. '
