'Earth Killer' will forgive the planet

According to Russian scientists, the results of recalculating the asteroid's path, the "Earth Killer", indicate that it is unlikely that it will hit the planet in the future.

The risk of Apophis attacking the planet has fallen sharply after the new calculation

Earth inhabitants can breathe a sigh of relief at the announcement from the expert group of the Astronomical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, RIA-Novosti quoted scientist Viktor Shor.

Russian scientists have reached this conclusion when recalculating the parameters of Apophis asteroid, which is twice the size of a football field.

Apophis's trajectory, discovered in 2004, is slightly perpendicular to earth orbit, and astronomers at the time reported that the asteroid would cross the globe with extremely close distances in 2029.

Some also alarmed the risk of Apophis crashing into the earth, causing it to be called "Earth Killer".

Recently, however, Russian experts have reloaded the data and added the effect called Yarkovsky, a force produced by light absorbed and re-radiated by asteroids into a thermal effect.

The Yarkovsky effect is evaluated to have a strong impact on the asteroid's movement direction.
