Electric wheelchair climbing stairs
The wheelchair is made by a group of Swiss students to help people with disabilities move well on uphill and rough terrain, such as stairs.
Swiss students build electric wheelchairs climbing stairs
A group of students at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) and the University of Zurich successfully built a Scalevo electric wheelchair capable of traveling on uneven terrain and climbing stairs. .
On a flat surface, Scalevo runs as well as balances on two large wheels. This design creates the flexibility, allowing it to make quick turns . If there is a ladder on the way, the rubber crawler under the car will lower and the car will slowly step up. In the process, to ensure the safety of the people sitting, the set of plungers will adjust the tilt of the chair, depending on the slope.
The engineering and electronics student group has created a stable model , and they are planning to use it for a Cybathlon competition, sponsored by ETH next year. This is a contest for disabled athletes using assistive devices.
