The team of experts at the University of East Anglia (UEA, UK) is implementing a $ 1.26 million project to reconstruct the photosynthesis process in the hope of converting light into usable energy.
The lead researcher, Professor Julea Butt, said the project aims to create hydrogen for clean energy-free cars that emit pollution, or convert into green energy.
Many efforts are underway to mimic the process of photosynthesis in nature
'We will build an artificial photosynthesis system by placing tiny solar panels on bacteria,' said Professor Butt in a British university press release.
This system will collect sunlight and activate hydrogen production, according to the Guardian.
The UEA project, in partnership with Leeds and Cambridge University, is the latest effort in the field of clean alternative energy research from photosynthesis.
The University of Imperial London (UK) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) are also pursuing similar technology.
