The British Meteorological Agency said that although it was only 2 weeks before the end of the new year, the December weather in England was still unusually warm; and the survey from January to November showed that 2006 was the record hot year in the country.

The survey also notes that the hottest 10 years have all occurred in the last 12 years, and the Earth's weather may still be hotter; however, it began to cool again due to La Nina phenomenon.

'This year has the hottest average temperature recorded since 1959, well above the hottest 2-year average temperature we've experienced , ' says Phil Jones of the University of East Anglia.

Most scientists agree that the world average temperature will increase about 2-6 degrees Celsius in this century due to greenhouse gas emissions, polar ice melting, flooding, storms big and hungry.

The results of the British Meteorological Agency survey were published hours before the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva published its 2006 report number.
