Error OpenOffice interconnects multiple operating systems

Security experts have discovered an extremely dangerous security hole in the OpenOffice office suite. This error can be exploited by hackers to gain remote rights to execute malicious code on a PC using a software error.

The definitive version of the bug is the OpenOffice 2.0.4 version that runs on Windows, Linux or Mac OS X platforms. The version of OpenOffice 2.3 released on September 17 did not fix this.

The error stems from how the application handles TIFF files. To be able to attack hackers, users need to trick users into opening a malicious TIFF file. This file may be hidden in email attachments, linked directly on the web or distributed via peer-to-peer file sharing software.

Hackers just need to insert some malicious data that they could cause buffer overflow.

The co-founder of TrustDefender Andreas Baumhof said: ' From a buffer overflow error, hackers will gain remote rights to execute malicious code on the system that has made a mistake. The rights that hackers get are equivalent to the rights that OpenOffice users have . '

' At this point we have confirmed and tested the bug on OpenOffice for Linux. But I'm sure the versions for other operating systems make mistakes. More dangerous is that Windows users are usually run by Administrator accounts - the account has the highest permissions . '

In June, the OpenOffice also faced the risk of being attacked by a computer worm called 'Badbunny' that attacked both Mac OS, Linux and Windows.
