Code to exploit Windows operating system
Warning from security companies said the two code exploits have just been launched on the Internet to attack systems running Windows operating systems.
The first exploit code takes advantage of a "critical" vulnerability in Windows' DHCP protocol. Microsoft has fixed this error since July 11 in the MS06-036 security bulletin , but not all computers run the update.
According to Symantec's warning, the exploit code could help hackers gain control over all unresolved Windows systems.
The second exploit code targets a security hole in a Windows component called "mailslot", which was fixed by Microsoft in the MS06-035 message. While Symantec and the French Security Response Group (FRSIRT) believe the code exploits an old flaw, Microsoft says it targets a new vulnerability.
Also according to Microsoft's announcement, the company has yet to record any attacks using the two exploits.
Earlier this month, Microsoft released seven security bulletins with patches for 18 vulnerabilities . At least two of these vulnerabilities have been exploited in previous attacks.
