According to reviews, the vulnerability is serious, affecting how Windows handles Windows Metafile image files (WMF) - which has been patched three times by Microsoft over the past two years. The latest fix for this vulnerability is MS05-053, issued in November 2005.

However, unlike the old vulnerabilities, the new vulnerability affects both the most secure operating systems today, namely Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003. Buffer overflow icon, the new vulnerability has yet to determine the exact impact factor.

Microsoft said it will investigate the vulnerability and will soon issue a specific guidance message. Depending on specific circumstances, Microsoft may issue an emergency patch or will put the patch into a monthly upgrade plan.
