Europe: more than half email is spam
Spam continues to submerge users and accounts for 50-80% of the total email sent to the mailbox, the European Commission said.
Viviane Reding, EU Communications Commissioner, called on member governments to increase efforts in fighting spam, spyware and other Internet problems in the face of this worrying situation. Previously, an EU report showed that only the Netherlands and Finland had some measures to tighten anti-spam laws.

By applying "harsh" heavy penalties, businesses must strictly comply with EU law, the Dutch government has reduced up to 85% of spam in the country. EU officials also said they plan to enact new laws next year to make spammer easier. According to estimates, spam has caused the world to lose 39 billion euros last year. The United States is still the number one spam drive, accounting for 21.6% of the total amount of spam that bombs the EU. China ranked second with 13.4%, double the third country, France (6.3%).
