Excavation of the tomb of Queen Cao Cao's grandson

Archaeological expert group in Luoyang, China is excavating the tomb of Wei's royal family, most likely belonging to Cao Du's queen, Cao Cao's nephew.

Archaeologists discovered a large tomb of the Queen of the Three Kingdoms (220-280) in the central province of Henan, China, Xinhua yesterday reported. Located in the south of Xizhu village in Lac Duong city, the tomb is 52m long, 13.5m wide, 12m deep along a slope, according to the Lac Duong Cultural and Archaeological Research Institute.

"The layout and design of the 7-storey staircase indicates that the grave belongs to a high-class royal member in Wei Wei. Through consideration of the objects we discovered and contrasted with historical records. this may be the grave of Cao Yu's queen , " said research director Shi Jiazhen.

Cao Rui was the father's successor, Cao Phi, who ruled over Wei. Cao Phi is Cao Cao's son, one of the most famous generals of the Three Kingdoms period.

The tomb was found by a citizen in 2015. Because of the grave of grave theft, the institute decided to excavate it soon."The grave was severely damaged by the thieves in the early Song Dynasty (960 - 1257) ," Shi said.

The excavation team dug more than 400 samples of pottery, lacquer, copper, iron and jade along with 100 stone steles listed objects buried in the grave.
