By combining information from multiple image tests and creating sophisticated 3D models, the researchers were better able to assess the structure and facial contours, basic bones, muscles, and wires. nerve and pulse, as well as the degree of damage of the face.

Using computer model software , PhD. Smith and Gorantla, along with Joseph Losee, integrate information from 3D CT , CT scans, MRI and high-definition tracking images to create a 3-D model of head and neck surgery patients. The same type of model technology commonly used in vivid films computer characters create three-dimensional detailed human features and realistic expressions.

Thanks to 3D images, doctors can clearly see the structure of bones and blood vessels as well as use which donor tissue type is suitable for the patient's face. It also allows doctors to plan surgery more accurately.
