Find out how to prevent Anophele mosquitoes from reproducing

Malaria is often spread very quickly through female mosquitoes when they burn people. So British, Italian, and American scientists have recently tested a new method to eliminate this disease by genetically modifying female mosquitoes so that they only produce male mosquitoes.

The group of scientists carried out genetic modification to determine the sex of Anophele mosquitoes , an animal that infects the malaria parasite itself, so that female mosquitoes are not born.

This method involves injecting male mosquitoes into one gene that is implanted with X chromosomes during the production of semen, causing female mosquitoes to produce only male mosquitoes, thereby reducing the number of mosquitoes that transmit malaria. and disappeared after a few generations. In the initial experiments under this method, about 95% of the eggs hatched were male.

Lead researcher Professor Andrea Crisanti said: " Malaria weakens the body and often leads to death, so we need to find new ways to prevent this disease. For the first time, we can limit the ability to reproduce female mosquitoes in the laboratory and this opens up the prospect of eliminating the disease. "

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 40% of the world's population is at risk of malaria.

WHO estimated last year there were about 207 million cases of malaria globally and 627,000 people died, mostly in Africa.
