Find the pilgrimage path Jesus once walked

The 2,000-year-old pilgrimage path found in Jerusalem is said to be the way Jesus used to walk .

This finding actually happened quite casually after two other fascinating discoveries regarding the Shiloah Pool and the central drainage channel that served the old city.

When a sewage pipe broke in the middle of Silwan Street in southeast Jerusalem in 2004, workers were sent to fix the leak, accompanied by a group of archaeologists.

During the repair process, the workers stumbled some steps near the ancient pool of Shiloah . This is an ancient pool where Jewish pilgrims will soak themselves before going to the temple.

The discovery of the pool Shiloah led to another remarkable finding that the central drainage channel served ancient Jerusalem.

Both discoveries are just the beginning of a more remarkable discovery that is the ancient road, digging beneath the village of Silwan and above the current famous water canal.

The researchers called it 'The Way of Pilgrimage' and believed that this was the way that millions of Jews traveled three times a year to Jerusalem.

According to Doron Spielman, vice president of the Ir David Foundation (Elad), nearly all Jewish pilgrims will enter the city along this road.

Spielman claims this is the path that Jesus almost certainly used during the Second Temple period, and is indeed the heart of the Jews, like the blood flowing in our veins.

Until now, Ir David has excavated about 250 meters on the Pilgrimage road.

'To understand Jerusalem, you need to stand here,' said Spielman.

The pilgrimage path is far more significant for Israel than it is to open only a new tourist destination, said Ze Armorev Orenstein, Ir David's director of international affairs.

He also stressed that it proves the historical relationship of Jews to Jerusalem, not only the places where Jews reside today but the whole city.
