Despite its moderate body size (about 34mm), this new spider is still placed in the family with Theraphosa blondi - the largest spider species in the world today.

The most special and interesting feature of this spider is the name Bumba lennoni, which is quite 'weird' . The person who coined the name was Fernando Pérez-Miles - the leader of the expert group who discovered the spider species. He said the Bumba lennoni was based on the name of the popular Beatles superstar John Lennon.

Is there any connection between the superstar John Lennon and the newly discovered spiders?

The explanation for this naming inspiration, Pérez-Miles says, simply because he is an avid fan of the British band. He said: 'I waited a long time to find a certain animal and named after John Lennon. And now I decided not to wait any longer! '.

In fact, Bumba lennoni has been discovered since 2005. Pérez-Miles said that he and his colleagues found this species in a trap placed at the science station in Caxiuana National Park - where the capital is known. the name 'full-solid place' in Tupi dialect. But at that time, there was no specific study on this creature, so it was not recognized as a new spider strain.

Until recently, after years of research on body characteristics, the team was able to confirm that this spider is a completely new breed. Unlike the Tarantula species, the Bumba lennoni has smaller sexual organs (in males) and the appearance of many small nodules in the mouth. According to the team, they believe that such construction will help Bumba lennoni crush prey more easily.

The new research is published in Zookeys magazine.
