Ford launches 'safety airbags' for cars
US automaker Ford says British-made cars will be equipped for the first time with the 'safety belt' they have developed.
This self-inflating seat belt is a combination of a normal seat belt with a protective cushion containing an airbag installed in the rear seats. Accordingly, the 'safety belt' will swell within 0.04 seconds after a collision to protect the head, neck and thorax of the chest and avoid injury to internal organs, especially in children. young and old when sitting in the back seat.
Joerg Doering, the company's research engineer, said the ' airbag' was similar to other types of seat belts under normal conditions. Because it is equipped with a sensor, in the event of a sudden accident, it will be immediately inflated by cold compressed air from the cylinder located below the seat, which distributes collision forces on the surface. 5 times more than conventional belts.
The Ford Research and Technology Center in Aachen, Germany, is testing the product to ensure it complies with the European Union (EU) safety standards. It is said that the 'safety belts' , priced at around £ 250 (over VND8 million), will also be available in the new Ford Mondeo for sale in the European market in mid-2013.
