Fossils of the oldest flower in North America

The Smithsonian Institute has published fossils believed to be the largest ever date in North America.

Fellows at the University of Maryland (USA), Nathan Jud, said they discovered a very special fossil in the ancient tree fossil group at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, according to Smithsonian.com.

'It is like a piece of fern, so I try to peel a little bit of stone over the specimen to see what kind of fern it is. But the more layers of rock are removed, the more fossils are found ' , according to graduate student Jud.

The results show that this is not a fern, but a primitive flower.

According to the American Journal of Botany report, graduate student Jud said that fossils, dating from 125 to 115 million years, belong to an ancient flower plant found in North America.
