Found 2 billion years old water

A 2 billion-year-old water source was discovered by British and Canadian scientists at one of the Lake Ontario mines. The findings are published in the journal Nature.

While working at a location near Timmins in Lake Ontario, the researchers took a sample of water sprayed from a drill 2.4 km deep. The results of different laboratories allow the conclusion that this water sample is not exposed to air for at least a billion years.

Before that, never had ancient water been found even in many deeper wells. Because the Earth's crust anywhere is always fluctuating, there is a network of cracks, formed in geological processes, so the water blocks are always changed positions despite being very deep. But Timmins was blocked by very solid cliffs, so the aquifer was isolated from the outside world for a long time.

Method of determining the age of water, based on a comparison of the concentration of isotopes of rare gases. The researchers found that liquid samples contained many xenon-124s, xenon-126s and xenon-128s, from their half-life that people could calculate the age of objects for billions of years. The ratio of argon and xenon, neon and argon, krypton and argon concentrations, also allows confirmation of the surrounding rock layers to be about 2.7 billion years old.

It is particularly interesting that the presence of organic substances in water will prove that in this era on Earth there existed life.

If detecting the bacteria in the water source that is isolated for billions of years from the outside world, it can not only provide historical traces of the Earth itself but also deduce the existence of an ecosystem. never known on other celestial bodies in the Solar System.

According to the documents that science has collected so far has not proven convincing that life can exist in some planets, but scientists still have not lost hope in finding the bacteria on planets like Mars.
