The frog is pregnant with a belly full of transparent eggs that can be seen through. This is one of the five amphibian species that are thought to have disappeared, but were found again in the Congo.

The loss of the frog with the scientific name Hyperolius leucotaenius is unknown, until American scientists rediscovered them in expeditions from 2009 - 2011.

2. Frogs live at high altitudes

Frog species Chrysobatrachus cupreonitens live in tall areas or inundated grasslands in Itombwe Plateau, southern Congo.

About one-third of the world's amphibians have become extinct or are about to disappear completely, said expedition leader Eli Greenbaum. So his expedition team had little hope of finding the lost species at the start of the journey.

This frog's egg hatches into a small frog, ignoring the tadpole stage. Many frogs were found in Congo's forests because scientists did not explore the country since 1960 due to constant war. However, dangerous roads, poor medical facilities and mines everywhere prevent scientists' discovery journeys.

4. The rare survivor

The team found the frog Hyperolius chrysogaster in Kahuzi-Biega National Park, in eastern Congo.

Other forests in this area are being destroyed for agricultural land, threatening frogs, gorillas and other animals.

Phrynobatrachus frog asper is very strong with two pairs of meaty legs. It was found again in 2009, when Itombwe Plateau villagers wanted to sell frogs that they used to make food for scientists.
