Found 50,000 year old homemade sewing needles still good

Scientists have found the world's oldest needle in a cave in Siberia, still in use after 50,000 years.

The ancient needle was crafted from the bones of an ancient bird, a result of Denisovans, a long-extinct breed, according to Russian experts.

Russian television reported the world's oldest needle.

It was found in Denisova Cave during an annual excavation in the summer of more than three decades.

Professor Mikhail Shunkov, Director of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnology in Novosibirsk, said: "This is the most unique discovery of this summer, may even be called a sensational discovery."

"It is a bone needle. Up to now, it is the oldest needle in the world, about 50,000 years old."

This is a sewing needle complete with a threaded hole, found in the cave in Altai Mountain, which is believed to keep the origin of humanity secret, according to the Siberia Times.

"The needle is a proof that the Denisovans are much more complex than what we knew before."

The needle is longer than 7 cm, according to Dr. Maksim Kozlikin, the head of the excavation, this is the longest needle found in Denisova cave.

This large cave was once the Denisova's residence, along with Homo sapiens and Neanderthals for at least 288,000 years.

In recent years, there have been many valuable discoveries about pre-human ancestors in this cave.

Analyzing the details in the cave, it was shown that humanity was out of Africa earlier than the experts assumed about 35,000 years.

"There is the first genetic evidence of modern humans outside Africa," said Sergi Castellano, a scientist at Max Planck's Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology.
