A research team has just announced the discovery of the yellow city missing in the Central American jungle, thanks to laser mapping technology.

The collected data is processed by the computer and made into the architectural map of the land on the 3D platform hidden under thick layers of leaves.

This is not the first time experts rely on LiDAR technology to identify ancient ruins. The original goal of this technology was to provide information on the lands after a severe earthquake, or military reconnaissance. LiDAR works by shooting 100,000 shortwave lasers every second to the target land. US experts used more than 4 billion lasers during the ambitious project, with 25 to 50 lasers per square meter of land.
