France blocks 'gate connecting the worlds'

French officials have enacted a ban on Mount Bugarach, which many people have visited in the past, believing that alien creatures will save them when the world dies.

Believers of the "New Age" doctrine believe that the world will perish on December 21, 2012. On that day, the Bugarach mountain in the south of France will crack and an extraterrestrial spacecraft will fly out from the crack to save the mountain people, then take them to a new world.

Bugarach, the highest mountain in the Corbieres range, famous for its rock formations from the summit, is older than the samples below. Scientists believe that the cause of the strange is that when the mountain has an elevation of 1.23 m, its peak is overturned.

Local officials predict about 100,000 visitors to the Bugarach for sightseeing before December 21. From January to July 2011 alone, more than 20,000 tourists visited the place they called "the gate connecting the world".

'We think many people will go to Mount Bugarach just because they are curious, but we cannot know their exact number. Most importantly, many journalists will also go to the mountain , 'Livescience quoted Eric Freysselinard, a local official.

Freysselinard said the authorities would mobilize 100 policemen and firefighters on December 21 to stop all roads up the mountain.

The misleading Committee for Monitoring and Combat Religious Behavior (Miviludes), an inter-ministerial agency of France, once remarked that the apocalyptic theme is being abused by commercial purposes.

"People have created countless postcards, magic wand and eternal stone to serve the needs of apocalyptic believers , " the committee said.
