France built a third generation nuclear reactor

French President Nikolas Sarkozy said the country would build a third-generation nuclear reactor to cope with the current energy crisis.

President Sarkozy emphasized the era of cheap oil has passed and now nuclear energy is the industry of the future. The final decision on the construction of this nuclear reactor will be approved before 2009 and the start of construction may begin in 2011.

The advantage of a third generation nuclear reactor compared to previous generations is fewer incidents, greater profitability as the capacity is increased to 1600 MW and more fuel efficient. Each third generation reactor will save 2 billion cubic meters of gas a year and contribute to reducing up to 11 million tons of CO2 emissions compared to using traditional fuel sources.

In addition, the cost of producing electricity by this furnace is 30-50% cheaper than producing electricity at thermal power plants.

With the strong development of the nuclear power sector, France can export electricity even without oil and gas.

The first French 3rd generation nuclear reactor was started in 2007 at the Flamanville nuclear power plant site, and is expected to be put into use in 2012. Within the next 20 years, two kilns This 3rd generation nuclear reaction will gradually replace all 19 French nuclear power plants today.
