France honored Professor Trinh Xuan Thuan

Professor of astronomy and writer Trinh Xuan Thuan will be the first Vietnamese to receive the Cino del Duca World Award awarded by the French Institute (Institut de France) on June 6, 2012.

The award ceremony will take place at the French Academy (of the French Institute). In particular, Professor Thuan was honored in two ways as a scientist and a writer.

This is a prestigious literary and scientific award, worth 300,000 euros, awarded by the 14-member council of four academies of the French Institute. The goal of the Cino del Duca award is to reward "a French or foreign author whose work, whether in the field of literature or science, contains a message of modern human spirit".

In that spirit, the announcement of the French Institute stated: "decided to award the 2012 World Award to Professor Trinh Xuan Thuan, an astrophysicist and writer, about his scientific dissemination. in French, a language he himself respects ".

This institute noted: "In parallel with the research work, he (GS Thuan - PV) also wrote many books to popularize scientific knowledge for the general public, with a complex and sophisticated look of a scientist. studying rich human qualities, considering people as "the offspring of stars", "self-questioning creatures of the universe", he always believed in the position of people in the universe ".

Professor Trinh Xuan Thuan is famous for popularizing scientific knowledge about the universe written in French. From his first book in 1988, he has now released more than a dozen works.

Many of his works popularize deep scientific knowledge, at a high level, widely circulated in more than 20 countries around the world, highly appreciated by international opinion such as: Mysterious Melody (1988), An astrophysicist (1992), Fate of the universe - Big Bang and then (1992), Chaos and harmony (1998), The infinite in the palm (2000), The paths of light morning (2008), sky and stars favorite dictionary (2009), Universe and lotus (2011) .

Professor Trinh Xuan Thuan was the first Vietnamese and the second Asian to receive the Cino del Duca award. Before him, there was Chinese medical professor Vuong Chan Nghi, who was awarded the award in 1998.

Previously, he was awarded the Grand Moron Prize of the French Academy of Philosophy (2007) and the Kalinga Prize of UNESCO for the dissemination of scientific knowledge (2009).

The Cino del Duca World Award has been awarded to major figures, who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of science, literature and art such as Andrei Sakharov, Russian physicist; Vaclav Havel, President of the Czech Republic; Léopold Sesdar Senghor, President of the Senegal Republic; and famous writers like Gorge Luis Borges, Mario Vargas Llosa, Milan Kundera .
