According to WWF Greater Mekong's conservation specialist, Robert Mather, every year at this time, dolphins often die a lot, but 10 dead in the past two months are indeed too many and sad. Eight of the 10 dead are baby dolphins.

At least one of these dolphins died of being caught in the fishing net. The remaining number has not found the cause of death yet.

The dolphins that live in rivers like Irrawaddy are measures of water quality control. The Global Conservation Organization estimates that there are about 80-100 Irranwaddy dolphins living in the Mekong region, concentrated in 190km of river between Cambodia / Laos border and Kratie town (Cambodia).
