The new GW8 gene variant promises a new rice variety that increases both yield and quality

First, scientists at the Academy of Social Sciences (China) conducted a study of Pakistan Basmati rice, a well-known world famous rice variety, and found that GW8 gene has a great influence on quality of rice. Gene GW8 can also improve the shape and color of rice grains.

When continuing to study GW8 genes , scientists also found that the gene also exists in some high-yielding rice varieties grown in China. But it is another GW8 gene variant, although it does not affect the quality, it has a role in grain weight and increase the yield of rice.

The team then identified the third variant of the GW8 gene that could combine the advantages of the other two gene variants, promising a new variety of rice that will increase both yield and quality of rice. The new GW8 variant, if combined with Basmati rice, can increase the yield by 14% compared to normal but still keep the quality of dipper. If combined with high-yielding rice in China, it can significantly improve rice grain quality and keep productivity.
