Generating jaw bone from stem cells

Columbia University (USA) scientists have announced that they have created a jaw bone in the laboratory using stem cells from adult bone marrow.

They say this is the first time a complex bone, usually performed only through anatomy, was created exactly this way.

To create jaw bone from stem cells, the researchers first introduced stem cells from adult bone marrow into a tissue, then based on the patient's digital image to form the exact shape of the jaw bone. . The cells are then fed by using a specially designed bioreactor that stimulates growth tissue.

This new technique can also be applied to other bones in the head and neck, including the skull and cheekbones.

Dr Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic, who led the study, said artificial bone can be used to transplant, treat joint-related diseases, arthritis or trauma.
