Germany: Introducing the world's most powerful magnet

A research institute based in Saxe (Germany) said that it has just put into operation the world's most powerful magnet with a magnetic field that is 2 million and a half times stronger than the Earth's magnetic field.

Magnets inaugurated at Rossendorf Research Center near Dresden have a magnetic field strength of 80 to 100 Tesla (magnetic induction unit, 1 Tesla = 20,000 times the Earth magnetic unit). According to the center, no magnet in the world has so far exceeded 71 Tesla.

Magnets with a weight of 1 ton will be used primarily in the study of material properties, especially in the field of nanotechnology. " We not only use this magnet for basic research, but we will also use it for specific goals ," said Professor Joachim Wosnitza, project director. Magnets can also help deepen research on tumors.

Researchers around the world show interest in this magnet. In the future it will be used by famous scientists or universities.
