Greenland ice suddenly melted massively

Nearly all of Greenland's large glaciers, the largest ice island on the planet, suddenly melted in part in July and surprised scientists.

Three NASA satellites discovered almost all of the glaciers on Greenland began to melt on July 8 and the process lasted four days, the AP reported.

Although the ice on Greenland is still melting in the summer and the amount of melting ice only accounts for a small percentage, it is unusual that melting ice occurs on the entire island.

Even the Summit station, the coldest and tallest place on Greenland, also begins to melt. The documents show that every 150 years the phenomenon of mass melting glaciers on Greenland occurs once. In 1889 was the most recent time that humans witnessed this phenomenon.

'The ice melted across the island on Greenland due to a warm air over the island,' said Tom Wagner, a NASA tape expert.

NASA said that the total area of the melted ice increased from 40% to 97% within 4 days. The melting area has never exceeded 55% of Greenland in the past three decades.

'When we see ice melting in places that no one expected, we are forced to ask the question: What is happening?' , Says Waleed Abdalati, a senior NASA researcher.

Wagner and some other scientists admit that they have not been able to determine the widespread melting of Greenland as a result of global warming or just a natural event.
