Growing vegetables in urban areas with vertical hanging gardens

A lecturer at Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry has created a vertical hanging garden, saving more space than a normal horizontal hanging garden.

Lecturer of the Department of Agriculture Nguyen Van Quy said that he found the area in the narrow urban area, the development of green trees is difficult, from which came up with the idea of vertical gardening.

"In urban areas, there are often empty areas such as balconies and front yards. Therefore, if appropriate kits are designed, households can take advantage of these areas to produce vegetables. clean for family meals or ornamental plants to entertain, " Nguyen Van Quy shared about the idea of implementing his topic.

Since then, Quy has studied and designed hanging garden kits, which can be placed anywhere in balconies or terraces to grow vegetables or ornamental plants.

The author said that with this hanging garden kit, only 5m 2 of premises can be planted with hundreds of vegetables or ornamental plants of all kinds.

Growing vegetables with this kit also contributes to reducing the risk of environmental pollution in agricultural production, or building vegetable farms on sandy areas, deserts, wetlands, salty and contaminated. alum, or island areas.

The kit consists of 4 parts: nutrient distribution and recovery unit, plant parts, garden fixed frame module and irrigation time control module. It works by reflecting hydroponic method, which is hung vertically in space.

Growers just need to spread the carpet, use a hook to hang the frame, then connect the watch, water tank and irrigation system together. Next, use some of the hun rice husk or coco peat to put in the planting bag and then sow seeds or seedlings there. By the time of setting up, the meter will power the pump to pump water and nutrients to the top of the garden.

"The system works completely automatically so it does not cost labor, efficient use of labor and time. The product is completely clean due to not using plant protection drugs , " Quy said.

The study by Nguyen Van Quy has just received the award for excellent environment awarded by the British Council.
