Herds of 1,400 dried sharks make the experts confused

Over-sharks of over 1,000 sharks appear along the southeastern coast of the United States, confusing experts because this species often lives alone.

Aerial survey to determine the habitat of the North Atlantic whale in the recent decade revealed the existence of huge giant sharks , National Geographic reported on April 12. Distributed around the world, sharks that specialize in filtering plankton in this water and slow moving do not pose a danger to humans.

Although it can be up to 9.8 meters long and is just behind whale sharks, exposing sharks living in deep waters are difficult to track. Without accidentally discovering, scientists could not collect data about them, according to Leah Crowe, field biologist at the Northeastern Fisheries Science Center of the US National and Atmospheric Administration. , the lead author of the study published in Fish Biology.

Crowe and his colleagues recorded 10 meetings with large sharks in the 1980-2013 year along the coast from Nova Scotia to Long Island. They found that about 10,000 times of exposed sharks appear in the database and 99% are 7-herds.

Shark experts offer several explanations as to why the shark is exposed. Other sharks gather to feed, pair and prevent predators from attacking. Exposed sharks of about 1,400 birds arrived in the south coast of New England in November 2013 including several young individuals.

According to Crowe, sharks are more likely to eat plankton instead of pairing. The team also speculated that exposed sharks gathered to reduce drag from their large mouths while feeding, allowing them to lean against each other to limit energy consumption.

Sharks spend 90% of their time in the deep sea and only 10% on the water, making their encounters a useful source of information, said Dave Ebert, program director at the research center. A greater understanding of exposed sharks is important because the population of this species is decreasing. In the 20th century, catching to harvest shark liver oil and skin made the number of dried sharks always low.
