Even the US, the country with the lowest violation rate, but the violation rate has risen to 21%, the value of damage to more than 6.1 billion USD. Anti-piracy of software is clearly one of the top concerns of many countries including Vietnam.

From July 1, Vietnam's Intellectual Property Law officially came into effect, which emphasized the author's intellectual property protection measures. In the coming time, when Vietnam joins the WTO, the issue of protection of intellectual property rights will be especially focused. In early June, another company in Ho Chi Minh City was sanctioned by the authorities for installing pirated software on computers to sell to customers. From May until now, at least 4 companies in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi have been examined and dealt with. Most pirated software is Microsoft's Window software. According to many sources, in the coming time, the inspection will take place more with different objects, including users.

However, the problem is that Vietnam as well as many other developing countries are facing difficulties in resolving conflicts between the need to use software to popularize information for people and respect for copyright protection. . A large part of the population now needs to use computer software while the price of copyrighted software is too high compared to their income.

In Vietnam, Microsoft's license to use Windows XP Pro is currently $ 140 per device. It is a significant amount for most people who need to use computers for work and study. How to reconcile these two issues? Many experts believe that the most appropriate measure at the moment is that foreign software manufacturers should have preferential price policies in accordance with the purchasing power of people in developing countries including Vietnam. That will contribute to encouraging people to use copyrighted software. At the same time, Vietnam also needs a plan to develop open source software and put these quality software into widespread use among the people.
