HP slipped almost 4.5 billion dollars to buy Mercury
Hewlett-Packard (HP) has announced a $ 4.5 billion contract to buy Mercury Interactive.
" I believe that merging with Mercury Interactive will help HP continue to grow its software business. Especially when Mercury is a company specializing in enterprise software products ," Mark Hurd - Executive Chairman HP said in a conference announcing the merger between the two companies.
" This is an event that marks market change ," said Tony Zingale, Mercury's executive chairman. " We have become one of the largest software companies in the world ."
HP vice president Thomas Hogan said the deal will officially end by the end of the year if legal procedures are in place.
HP also did not plan to make any changes in Mercury until early next year to avoid unnecessary turmoil in the fourth quarter of this year, Hogan said. " We need time to consider what changes should be made and will only post those changes after January 1, 2007. "
With the acquisition of Mercury, HP's number of employees has doubled - up to 6,000 employees - while also increasing HP's annual software revenue to more than $ 2 billion. " With today's consolidation, HP and Mercury have become the world's leading optimization software vendors ," Zingale said.
HP forecasts that the acquisition of Mercury will help increase its revenue by about 10 to 15%.
