Huge ocean garbage collection system

A 2,000m-long garbage trap system, the longest floating structure on the sea surface, will collect plastic and rubbish and then sort through conveyor.

Huge system of collecting ocean garbage

According to Business Insider, Ocean Clean Up (TOC) is planning to test a device to clean up the garbage on the ocean next year. This is a device floating on the water, moving along the ocean currents, catching plastic pieces and floating garbage. Garbage will then be sorted on a conveyor.

"Handling the ocean waste problem is one of the biggest environmental challenges facing humankind today. This garbage removal system is not only the first step to clean up the coast and the sea, but It is also an important step towards clearing garbage floating in the Pacific, "said Boyan Slat, founder and director of the TOC.

With a size of up to 2,000m, this will be the longest floating device in the ocean. TOC intends to deploy this garbage trap off the coast of Japan in early 2016 and will operate at least 2 years.

To support, TOC will deploy another project called Team Vien chinh in August. Accordingly, 50 vessels will travel from Hawaii to California measuring the amount of plastic waste on an area of 3.5 million square kilometers of sea surface in three weeks.

It is estimated that there are about 5 million pieces of plastic waste floating in the oceans, endangering marine life accidentally swallowed or trapped inside. Revoking these plastic pieces is a difficult and expensive task.
