Hundreds of people died from floods and mudslides in Sierra Leone

Authorities confirmed more than 200 people died from floods and mudslides in Sierra Leone. There are probably hundreds of corpses under the rubble.

The BBC quotes a Sierra Leone official on August 14 confirming more than 200 bodies had drifted to the country's capital, Freetown. The reason is due to floods and mudslides after heavy rains in this country .

Answering Reuters, Vice President Victor Foh said many corpses were found in the outskirts of Freetown."There may be hundreds of corpses under the rubble," said Mr. Foh at the mudslide scene in the town of Regent.

He added that many houses were illegally built in this area."The catastrophe is too serious for me," he said. "We are trying to block the area and evacuate people."

Many people cried when they saw the ruin under heavy rain. Mud and flooding are a common sight in the rainy season in West Africa, where deforestation and housing in poor towns make people more vulnerable.

Rescuers were present at the scene in an attempt to save those still buried. Time went by, hoping to save the lives of the victims less and less.

In 2015, the tragedy occurred in the capital of Freetown when floods killed 10 people and left thousands of people homeless.
