IDC: Last year, the world consumed 1 billion mobile phones

Research firm IDC said the number of mobile phones consumed globally in the past year has officially exceeded the 1 billion product threshold for the first time.

One of the reasons that helped the global mobile industry achieve such positive results was the strong growth during the last holiday shopping season in 2006. During this period, the number of mobile phones was consumed has increased by nearly 20%, reaching a record 295 million units sold.

Nokia and Motorola are still the two leading mobile phone manufacturers and suppliers. Although the market share of these two companies has continued to grow strongly in the past year, unfortunately the revenue has gone in the opposite direction.

" IDC believes that this trend will continue in the future when the developed market has become saturated, while developing markets have not yet achieved the necessary" maturity ". Assembly for mobile device manufacturers , "said IDC analyst Ramon Llamas.

" Cell phones now seem to have become an indispensable demand and personal symbol in developing markets ."

In the fourth quarter of 2006 Nokia sold a total of 105.5 million products - an increase of 26% over the same period last year. Market share of the world's No. 1 phone company continued to expand and reached 35.8%. However, Nokia still loses the market share of cheap phones. Even so, Nokia's revenue in the year has come down.
