Indian farmers are shocked when meteors fall between rice fields

A meteorite-like object fell into the middle of a rice field in Madhubani district in Bihar state, eastern India, on July 22, and shocked people working here.

The object of the size of a soccer ball fell with a loud noise accompanied by blind smoke, causing the farmers working on the field to startle, according to the Guardian.

Kapil Ashok, judge of the Madhubani district, told the Times of India that people saw an object like a fireball falling from the sky. Residents of Mahadeva village then excavated the object from a 150 cm deep pit.

Initially, this suspected meteorite object will be stored at the Bihar Museum, which will then be transferred to the Shrikrishna Science Center in Patna City for expert research.

Meteors are dust and rock particles that often burn when passing through the Earth's atmosphere. The remaining meteorite pieces that land on the surface of the Earth may provide clues to the history of the solar system.

In 2016, authorities in Tamil Nadu state, South India, said a fallen meteorite had killed a bus driver and injured three others.

In 2013, nearly 1,100 people were injured after an asteroid burned in the sky over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk. The meteorite broke before falling to the ground, but the explosion in the air damaged many buildings and injured many people.

The meteorite is equivalent to 5000 tons of explosives falling into Puerto Rico
