At the main island of Java, Indonesia's most active volcano is Merapi who also sprayed a 2,000-meter-high column of ash in the morning, said the director of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.

According to him, the eruption caused small earthquakes, which forced about 600 households to evacuate quickly and then returned when the danger passed.

It is known that Merapi volcano erupted violently in October 2010 killed 350 people and destroyed many nearby villages.

According to AFP, the island of Indonesia is located on the "ring of fire" between the Pacific and Indian Oceans, where geological activities are intense with earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occurring continuously. The country currently has dozens of active volcanoes.

In August, six people died and thousands evacuated when the volcano Rokatenda on the small island of Palue in East Nusa Tenggara province erupted.
