Inside the 129-year-old Hang Dau Water Tower is about to open to visitors
Inside the 129-year-old ancient building of Hanoi - Hang Dau water tower is about to open.
In the tower, behind the stone walls built evenly apart like the spokes of a wheel, is a quiet space. The light from the high window reflects on the rough, arc-shaped wall of rubble more than 1 meter thick. Located close to the stone wall is an intact water pipeline system, covered with dust and rusted over time.
The water pipeline to the tower is made of more than 100 years old steel inside the Hang Dau water tower.
The water valves and steel pipes inside the Hang Dau water tower have existed for more than 100 years.
Time leaves rust and peeling marks.
Looking up high are the windows on the stone wall tinged with time.
On top of the arc-shaped stone walls is a giant steel water tower with a capacity of 1,250m3 .
Hang Dau water tower was built in 1894 (before the construction of Long Bien bridge)
Hang Dau water tower (often called Hang Dau tower) is located at the intersection of streets: Hang Than, Hang Luoc, Hang Giay, Hang Dau, Quan Thanh and Phan Dinh Phung (Ba Dinh district, Hanoi).
Within the framework of the 2023 Hanoi Creative Design Festival, the space inside the Hang Dau water tower (Hanoi) will be renovated and displayed for people to visit from November 17 to December 31.
The project design team wants to renovate Hang Dau Water Tower into an art space, awakening heritage, in harmony with the new urban flow.
"The sound installation system will recreate the sounds of water in nature. The light installation system expands the vision of beautiful enclosures, the materials are all recycled from urban waste, emphasizing urban impact on the natural environment ," said a representative of the Group of Architects and Artists.
The art space at Hang Dau Water Tower will be open for the first time for visitors to visit and admire the ancient architecture inside the Water Tower and works of art.
