Iran continues to suffer a strong aftershock of 5.3 on the Richter scale

On August 14, a strong aftershock, up to 5.3 Richter, rocked the outskirts of Tabriz, the third largest city and capital of East Azerbaijan province in northwestern Iran.

According to the Institute of Seismology at the University of Tehran, the epicenter is located far from the commercial town of Varzaqan, which was flattened by horrifying earthquakes on August 11.

Far news agency said the earthquake caused panic in the city, forcing employees to flee the offices. However, there is no information about the damage caused by this aftershock.

On the same day, with the help of a professional dog, rescue workers found two people alive after 72 hours buried under rubble.

According to the official IRNA news agency, both of them are in good health and are being restored in a village near Vadacan town, north of Tabriz city.

Iranian National Assembly Chairman Ali Larijani on August 14 expressed his support for international assistance for victims of double earthquake disaster in Northwest Iran.

During the visit to Tabriz, Mr. Laridani said that preliminary emergency measures were taken, and asked local officials to speed up measures to overcome and support resettlement for victims before winter comes.

Earlier, Mohammad-Reza Rahimi, the first Vice President, announced on August 13 that Iran was ready to receive international aid to overcome the earthquake consequences.
