Iiha da Queimada Grande is a 45-hectare island, lone in the South Atlantic Ocean and 35 km from the coast of Sao Paulo. With this peaceful beauty, this place should be one of the best tourist attractions in Brazil if it does not contain more than 400,000 extremely poisonous snakes.
Previously, the island was named 'Fire Island' because fishermen tried to occupy the coast by burning forests and chasing wild animals into the deep forest, but with the presence of countless poisonous snakes, here better known as 'Snake Island'.

The island is famous for being the only habitat of the world's most unique yellow-headed cobra . Although the yellow-headed cobra is an endangered species in other parts of the world, there are many snakes on the island, so that 1 to 5 tigers are golden heads. Adult snakes can grow more than half a meter in length and venom is five times stronger than inland venom, because they only eat birds instead of mammals.
A yellow-headed tiger bite can kill an adult by causing pain, vomiting, bruising, internal bleeding, impairment, cerebral hemorrhage and leading to severe muscle necrosis only after 2 hours.
The scientists concluded that the golden snakehead has the ability to destroy and dissolve human bodies and other animals because their venom contains toxin Hemotoxin, which corrodes meat and tissue.
This type of venom not only "sees off" the victim quickly but also makes it easier for the golden-headed tiger to swallow its prey.
The venom, isolation and venomous snakes everywhere have turned Ilha da Queimada Grande into the most terrifying " graveyard " in the world!
In addition to the golden-headed cobra, many other dangerous snakes also live here.
Brazilians often tell tourists two stories of snake-dead people on the island.
The main character in the first story is a fisherman . During a trip to the sea, he stopped by the island to pick fruit and a snake bit him. The fisherman rushed back to the boat. But a few days later, people found him dead on a boat floating and lying in a pool of blood.
The second story is about the lighthouse keeper and his family. On the only island there is a lighthouse and almost no people live. There is a legend that the last inhabitants of the island were lighthouse keepers. One night, hundreds of snakes slithered through the window to attack his family, making them seek to escape to the sea. However, snakes longer than half a meter hung from tree branches, biting the whole family, causing them to die in pain.
Because of the overcrowded presence of this deadly dangerous animal, the Brazilian Navy banned anyone from going to the island except scientists and lighthouse keepers.
Since 2010, popular tourist site Listverse has chosen the island as the world's most horrible tourist destination , ranked above both Chernobyl radioactive areas and mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan.
