This 3m high seawall is built on the old 14m high dyke, bringing the total height of the dyke to 17m above sea level.

TEP decided to build a breakwater surrounding the Onagawa Power Plant after a serious nuclear incident in the neighboring province of Fukushima, as a result of the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster.

After raising the height, this new construction section of TEP dyke has a total length of 600m along the coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

On May 8, TEP announced the results of this construction before the members of Ishinomaki city council, one of the places that had suffered the tsunami of March 11, 2011.
