Mr. Truong Quang Tam, Institute of Tropical Biology in Ho Chi Minh City, said: Begonia bataiensis Kiew, first discovered at Ba Tai mountain (Kien Luong district, Kien Giang), has just officially been declared a true species. New objects, added to the plant list for world science. The name of this plant is associated with the site of its discovery - Ba Tai, often grows in rock crevices in limestone mountains, moist with shady, 10-50m high in the sea . Soon after, Begonia bataiensis Kiew was also discovered in many limestone mountains in Kien Giang such as Mo So, Khoe La and Hon Lo Coc .
Kien Giang limestone mountain is being concerned by Vietnamese and international scientists because of the highest and most ranked biodiversity in the world. Here, scientists have discovered a number of plants and animals suspected of being new species of science and are being sampled for testing before being published.
