Korea: Prepare to launch UWB super-speed mobile service
SK Telecom plans to become a mobile service provider based on the world's first UWB (Ultra Wideband) platform around early 2008.
Expected in the middle of next year, the first UWB mobile phones will be completed by SK Telecom. UWB technology products and services will be completed by the end of 2007 and early 2008.
SK Telecom will be backed by US-based manufacturer Staccato Communications. Mark Bowles, founder of Staccato, said UWB mobile phones will be produced by the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer.
According to Mark Bowles, thanks to utilizing the WiMedia UWB radio platform, SK Telecom's new models can support both wireless USB technology, WiNet and some new protocols being developed.
