LED (Light Emitting Diode), made from semiconductors, uses diodes capable of emitting light. They are used as display parts in electrical equipment, electronics, advertising lights, decoration, traffic lights . Unlike incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, LED lights can be operated by solar energy. God.

Dr. Khai is taking steps to prepare for a solar lighting project using solar energy. When fully charged, the solar cell system of the lamp can provide power for about 15-20 hours. If LED lighting is installed in the streets, inter-village and commune roads, people will not have to dig trenches to bury cables. When the grid is cut off, the street lights are still normal.

Mr. Khai affirmed that LED lamps are not the biggest luminescent lamps. In this respect, the championship belongs to fluorescent T5 and T8 (with luminescent efficiency up to 99 lumen / W) followed by LED (80 Lumen / W), compact light (40-60 Lumen / W) and incandescent light. However, LEDs have many advantages that other lamps cannot have.

For example, LED lamps have a lifespan of 50,000 - 100,000 hours (compared to about 1,000 hours of normal shadow and 8,000 hours of compact ball) and do not burn when the power source fluctuates millions of times per second. One can use power LEDs much lower than other lamps but still have an equivalent light source. A LED ball with a capacity of 5 W for light is equivalent to a normal 20W power ball.

In addition, the electricity consumption of LEDs is only equivalent to nearly one-fifth (AC) compared to ordinary lamps and the amount of heat they emit is negligible. They are also safer to use because of their low voltage. If the light bulb usually only glows at a voltage of 110-220 V, the white LED bulb can operate at 3-24 V.

If replacing 10 million ordinary bulbs with LEDs we could save 2,000 MWh per year.

Due to low power consumption, people can use LED lights in remote areas without the need for a high-power generator. In the house, people only need to use a ball with a capacity of 0.5-28 W (bright enough to read books), while in inter-village and inter-commune roads, people can use the ball 56 W. Dr. Khai said, in the commune Ninh So, Thuong Tin, Hanoi, people use 33 W LED bulbs to light up the offices of the people's committee and the church. To illuminate vegetable farms, farmers in Binh Thuan province use LED bulbs with a capacity of 3-5 W and 20 W compact lamps to replace ordinary lamps 60-75 W.

That's because they can produce millions of colors and are easy to shape light sources (due to small size lamps). If using light-emitting diodes to make automotive headlights, consumers can save up to 25% on gasoline compared to traditional headlights. In addition, LED headlights emit stronger, clearer and more luxurious lighting. Currently many companies have built many giant screens, decorative trees with LED lights in public places. Houses, furniture decorated with LED lights become much more beautiful and magnificent than other lamps.

LEDs have a significant advantage over fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps for incubator lighting. That's because its light is very similar to natural light. One can change the light wavelength of the lamp to suit the ability of the plants to absorb light. If lighting with normal shadow, normal trees 6-8 months can be grown and have curved tops, but with LED lights only need 4 months to grow. Most plants have strong stems, large leaves, dark green, straight shape, survival rate of 90% or more.

In large-scale pig farms, farmers have to use 250 W bulbs to provide light for newly born pigs. These balls are both "hungry" for electricity, heat and make the barn hotter. In summer, when the outdoor temperature is greater than 30 degrees Celsius, the farm owner must use a fan, regulating the cooling of the barn. Dr. Khai affirmed that farmers can replace with 3 W LED bulbs, minimizing electricity for lighting and cooling.

According to Dr. Khai, in the current condition, Vietnam cannot produce LED bulbs on a large scale. However, people can assemble LED bulbs and ball control systems. It is important to find good quality components. LED bulbs purchased at flea markets often have low light intensity and are quickly damaged.
